This particular little jewel was painted during the dead of winter because one of the planters I had moved into our solarium from the back deck was obviously very happy. My process begins with a collection of deadheaded flowers from the prosperous garden at our home in SW Denver. My wife, Kathy, then photographs them and uploads the the pictures to be digitized. I work with the images in a photo enhancement software to adjust placement, values, shadows, contrast, and focus and compose a working draft. The final artwork is created with oil paint in my studio (which, at times, is located in the Great Room of our home) on either panel or canvas with brush and/or palette knife.
