“Recognition” From the “Up in the Trees” Series
“Recognition” is from my previous series “Up in the Trees”. My wife, Kathy, and I often hiked Temescal Canyon just north of Pacific Palisades overlooking the Santa Monica Bay. It was there that I found one of the straighter Sycamore trees. Coming from Colorado, I have always admired trees, so we photographed trees wherever we went. Then I upload the pictures to be digitized. Next I work with the images in a photo enhancement software to adjust placement, values, shadows, contrast, and focus and compose a working draft. Finally, I create the artwork with oil paint in my studio (which, at the time was our garage) on either panel or canvas with brush and/or palette knife. I call this piece “Recognition” because it reminds me of the early days of my life with Kathy.
